Cotulla Texas 78014 GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the direct supervision of the Area Manager/Assistant Area Manager on the Chaparral Wildlife Management Area (CWMA), the Intern is responsible for assisting staff in all facets of Area operations.
Assists with baseline inventory and monitoring activities such as drift fence monitoring, quail census, and white-wing and mourning dove trapping/banding.
Assists with Texas tortoise, Texas Indigo, Texas horned lizard, and western diamondback rattlesnake monitoring programs.
Monitors effects of mechanical brush clearing projects.
Performs data entry of research, baseline inventory, and public hunt information.
Interns may have the opportunity to help graduate students with varying aspects of their research.
Assists with on-site research activities associated with vegetation and wildlife.
Provides support with public outreach programs as needed.
Assists Area staff in maintenance of facilities and roads and habitat enhancement.
Assists with capital improvement projects and public access projects including nature trail development and maintenance.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate within the last 6 months; Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application; Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.
